STAR (Sun Tracking Advanced controlleR), the hybrid system of monitoring and control for the CPV, and Nano, the portable system for real-time detection of nanoscale particles and pollutant gaseous, have been selected by the Ministry of Innovation as Italian technological excellences and they attended the exhibition "Italia degli Innovatori"at the Italian Pavilion of Shanghai Expo 2010 .

Description

STAR, an ALITEC international patent, is a very accurate detector of sun position. It can work as a pyranometer: it is able to give information to the control unit on the current solar intensity in order to optimize the energy used to move the tracking system in the days of variable cloudiness. It has a viewing angle such as to constitute in an autonomous way a closed-loop tracking system which, together with an algorithm for calculating the ephemeris, allows a tracking strategy of hybrid type.

The advantages of a hybrid tracking system are:

• high pointing accuracy in all weather conditions
• sleep mode to save power on cloudy days
• self-alignment of the solar tracking system
